Is Everest Base Camp Trek Open Right Now?

Yes. The Everest Base Camp Trek is currently open and operating. Places Nepal's operations team has confirmed the current trekking situation.

Trekkers are on the standard route through Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep toward Everest Base Camp.

If you saw "trekking paused" headlines, those described a short weather restriction, not a closure. Because of rain and snow from the remnants of Cyclone Arnab, the Department of Immigration asked trekkers not to start high-altitude treks from 29 to 31 October. That window has ended, and we have not found a new restriction on the Everest route.

What Happened on 29–31 October?

Remnants of Cyclone Arnab brought heavy rain across Nepal and snow to the high mountains. The Department of Immigration asked trekkers not to start high-altitude treks for three days and paused new restricted-area permits. Everest Base Camp is not a restricted-area route, so that permit pause did not apply to it. A wider Department of Tourism advisory covered 28 October to 1 November.

Snow fell in the upper Khumbu, and Dingboche was reported covered on 30 October. By 1 November, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said the system was weakening and conditions were improving.

Everest Base Camp Trail Conditions

Our operations team has confirmed that the route is open. It has not reported on each section separately, so the table below describes what to expect, not a section-by-section inspection.

Route section

What trekkers should know

Lukla–Phakding

Flight timing, not the trail, is the main variable.

Phakding–Namche Bazaar

Suspension bridges and a long climb. Rain can leave the trail wet.

Namche–Tengboche

Cloud and rain affect visibility and footing.

Tengboche–Dingboche

Colder and more exposed above the tree line.

Dingboche–Lobuche

Snow was reported at Dingboche on 30 October. Expect snow, ice and slower days.

Lobuche–Gorakshep

High moraine walking. Snow and wind slow progress.

Gorakshep–Everest Base Camp

Glacier-side trail. Snow changes footing and visibility.

Gorakshep–Kala Patthar

Pre-dawn climb. Your guide decides that morning based on cloud, wind and snow.

Are Lukla Flights Operating?

Everest Base Camp trekkers fly to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. In busy seasons, including autumn, flights often leave from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. On our trek that means a hotel pickup around 1 AM and a four to five hour drive.

Lukla flights depend on visibility, wind and cloud. Poor visibility grounds aircraft, so delays of a few hours are routine and full-day cancellations happen several times a season. After a storm, a backlog can take a day or two to clear. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal issued a safety alert on 28 October ahead of the cyclone, and landslides blocked more than a dozen road sections across Nepal on 31 October.

An open route does not guarantee a flight on any given day. Allow buffer days and reconfirm your flight arrangements with us before departure.

Everest Base Camp in November 2026: Is the Trail Accessible?

October and November are the main autumn trekking months in the Everest region. November usually brings stable weather and clear mornings, but also colder nights, wind and a real chance of snow around Lobuche, Gorakshep and Kala Patthar, as the last week showed. Visibility can change within hours. Before walking to Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar, your guide checks the weather that morning. No month guarantees clear skies.

Is Everest Base Camp Open in Winter?

The route does not close when winter begins. Some trekkers walk to Everest Base Camp in December, January and February. Temperatures are far colder above Dingboche, snow can affect the trail and Kala Patthar, teahouse availability needs checking, and Lukla flights stay weather-dependent. Winter trekking is not suitable for everyone, so talk to us before you plan it.
