Is the Manaslu Circuit Open Right Now?

Yes. The Manaslu Circuit Trek is currently open and operating. Places Nepal's operations team has confirmed that the trail is open for trekking.

You may have seen reports of flood damage and disruption in the Manaslu region this autumn. Those describe earlier events and the repairs that followed. They are not the situation today.

Want to know the latest trail conditions before you leave?

How We Confirmed the Current Status

Places Nepal is a Kathmandu-based local trekking operator, with guides and operational contacts who know the Manaslu region well.

At Places Nepal, we keep a close eye on weather developments and trail conditions across Nepal. Our operations team checks the latest available information before sending groups on the trail. For Manaslu, our team has confirmed that the trekking route is currently open and operating.

Why You May Have Seen "Closed" Headlines

Flooding hit the Manaslu region twice this season: on 6 September near Namrung, and far more seriously on 11 October, when the Budhi Gandaki flood damaged trails, bridges and road access along the lower route. The Kathmandu Post reported bridges swept away and roads damaged at several points.

Repairs and temporary crossings followed, much of the work done by local communities. By 25 October, the Kathmandu Post reported trekkers moving again from Jagat through Philim toward Nubri and Larkya La. For more background, see the Nepal Tourism Board situation update and The Tourism Times report on the reopening.

Treat all of these as history. The route has reopened.

What Should Trekkers Know About Current Trail Conditions?

An open route is not a frozen one. Rain, landslides, snow and repair work keep changing details on the ground. These are the areas worth asking about before you travel:

We only share specific details that our team or reliable recent reports have confirmed. If a section hasn't been checked recently, we say so and reconfirm before you travel.

Is Larkya La Open?

Larkya La is the high point of the circuit, at about 5,106 metres. An open route does not mean the pass is suitable to cross on any given day. Snow, wind, visibility and weather decide that, and the call belongs to your guide on the morning itself. Nobody can promise a crossing date or safe conditions in all weather, and we don't. If your guide says the conditions are wrong, you follow that decision.

Can You Travel to Machha Khola?

Machha Khola is the starting point for the Manaslu Circuit. The drive from Kathmandu runs via Arughat and takes roughly 8 to 9 hours. Road conditions can change, especially after heavy rain.

For the exact current vehicle access and road condition, message our team on WhatsApp.

Is Manaslu Open for the November Trekking Season?

Autumn is one of the main trekking seasons in the Manaslu region, and November can be a good month to walk. Mornings are often clear, but it gets colder at higher elevations, and snowfall or strong wind can affect Larkya La.

We can't say the route will stay open on every date, or guarantee the weather. Check the latest conditions before you travel.

Are Trekking Permits Available?

Yes. Manaslu is a restricted-area destination, and foreign trekkers need the required permits arranged through an authorised trekking agency. Rules on guides and group size have been revised in recent years, so rely on the official pages and your agency rather than older blog posts:

How Places Nepal Checks Trail Conditions

Our operations team keeps track of weather developments, road access and trail conditions before running trekking groups. We pass route changes on to trekkers and adjust arrangements when we need to.

"We do not rely on an old online update when preparing a trek. Our operations team checks the latest available information and coordinates with our local contacts before departure."

That doesn't make weather delays impossible in the mountains. It means you hear about changes from us early, not at the trailhead.

Need the Latest Manaslu Trail Conditions?

The Manaslu Circuit is currently open and operating, but local conditions can change with weather and trail developments.

If you are planning to trek in the coming days or weeks, contact Places Nepal directly. Our operations team can share the latest available updates on road access, trail conditions and the current trekking situation.
