Post Trek Activities: For Adrenaline Junkies

On this page:

When planning a trip to the Himalayas, many people only think as far as what they will need for the trekking adventure. Few consider the range of possibilities available after the trekking expedition.

As a prudent traveller, you should already be considering what to do after trekking in Nepal. Luckily, there are plenty of things to ensure you get the most out of your trip.

1. Paragliding

Hiking through Nepal can be an amazing experience. However, getting to observe the region with a bird’s eye view brings a whole new meaning to adventure.

Once you hike to some of the highest peaks in the world, you have the option of paragliding all the way down. Paragliding is considered an aerial port in which you strap on a parachute, run off of a cliff and glide to the ground.

Paragliding in Pokhara...

Unlike many extreme sports, there are no special requirements for paragliding. You do not need any special takeoff or landing track. Additionally, anyone with enough guts is free to try it out.

If you are a first-timer, you’ll have the opportunity to go on this exhilarating adventure with an experienced paraglider to keep you safe. The best time to engage in paragliding ranges from September to early June.

While in the sky, you’ll not only enjoy the wind blowing through your face but will also get a look at the rolling hills, diverse flora, water bodies, standout villages, and so much more. Some of the best places to go for this post-Nepal trek adventure include,

  • Kot Dandar
  • Bandipur
  • Pokhara
  • Godavari
  • Chapakarkha
  • Phulchowki

2. White-Water Rafting

White-water rafting is another activity you can engage in after trekking in Nepal. Because of the mountainous landscape of Nepal, it is easy to understand why it has so many rivers.

Many adventure lovers love to explore these rivers by riding rafts to different destinations. The good news is that you can always find a river that is suitable to your level of preference.

There are easy, moderate and difficult rafting routes. The difficulty level is determined by the amount of rocks, intensity in terms of speed and the meandering of the rivers.

Some of the rivers you can visit for this activity include Trishuli, Seti, Bhote Koshi, Kali Ghandaki, Marsyangdi, Sun Koshi and Arun River. Another thing to note is that you will be provided with all the safety gear you need while engaging in this activity.

There is always an experienced guide on board the raft so you do not have to worry about any dangers. Additionally, most of the water is warm and the beaches do not have any unpleasant bugs to cause distractions.

3. Rock Climbing

If you are thinking of something challenging both physically and mentally, rock climbing in Nepal may just be the activity you need. Again, you should be aware that different rock climbing courses range from easy to difficult.

You can pick any and go have fun. It is worth pointing out that there are indoor rock climbing centres for the timid. Once you get used to the indoor options, you can always explore the outdoor courses.

Regardless of what you choose, you can be sure that the professionals working in different locations will have all the safety gear you need. They will also be on standby to provide any guidance you may need along the way.

Some of the places with good rock climbing spots include Nagarjun Forest, Hattiban, Khumbu Valley, Pokhara, Balaju, Tistung, and Bimal Nagar.

4. Kayaking and Canoeing

Visitors to this region can enjoy sessions of kayaking or canoeing in different lakes and rivers of the Himalayas. While kayaking may seem similar to white water rafting, the truth is that they vary slightly.

Kayaking and Canoening...

Kayaking and canoeing is less intense. You can kayak or canoe on calm waters. This can be a good way for you to explore the different water bodies in the region since you will be moving through different places at your own pace.

Some of the places you can visit to enjoy this activity include Phewa Lake, Gokyo Lake, Rara Lake, Tilicho Lake, and Phoksundo Lake.

5. Bungee Jumping

Bungee jumping is another excellent activity to consider after trekking through the Himalayas. Bhote Koshi Gorge and Hemja in Pokhara have two of the best bungee jumping spots.

Bungee Jumping in Nepa...

If you pick the Pokhara bungee spot, you’ll get to experience what it is like to plunge 80 meters down and touch the waters of the 20-meter-deep pond below. You'll swing on the ropes for a while before finally being let down into the water for a boat to pick you up.

Bungee jumping activities can take place throughout the year so you do not need to worry about when to go. This can be a good pick for anyone who wants to experience something new.

Even if you have a fear of heights, this can be one of the best ways to overcome it. Keep in mind that you will be held safely by secure ropes.

There are also people waiting for you down in the pond so there is almost zero chance of an unfortunate outcome.

6. SkyDiving

If you are looking for an out-of-this-world experience, skydiving should be on your top five list. Nepal offers one of the best places to engage in this activity, and that is Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world.

The peak stands at approximately 8,848 meters, but as a skydiver, you’ll go above that to reach a height of almost 23000 feet. Of course, there are other skydiving areas like Pokhara, which are considered less extreme and can be a good option for those who are not ready for extreme heights.

On the day of the jump, a chopper will take you up to the air and you will be strapped in a parachute with a professional to help you navigate the skies. Soaring through the air will undoubtedly give you a new perspective on life. You will get to appreciate just how beautiful the earth looks from the sky.

7. Jungle Safari

Taking a jungle safari can be another good way to spend time after trekking. One of the most exciting things about it is that you can explore the jungle on the back of an elephant.

There is also the option to go on a safari in a vehicle.

Throughout the different regions, you’ll see a variety of bird species and animals, including rhinos, deer, bears, crocodiles, and jungle cats.

Jungle safaris may also include visiting remote villages located in the middle of the forests. There, you can learn about local culture.
