Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you'll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, we'll have a briefing at our office to discuss the trek details and ensure all preparations are in order. The evening culminates in a welcome dinner, offering a taste of Nepali cuisine and a chance to connect with your fellow trekkers. Kathmandu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a melting pot of culture and history, setting the stage for your Himalayan adventure.
Today, we journey from the bustling Kathmandu Valley towards the tranquility of the mountains. A local bus ride provides a fascinating glimpse into rural Nepali life as we navigate winding roads alongside river valleys. The change in scenery from the urban landscape to the foothills marks the beginning of our trek approach. Machha Khola, nestled by the river, is our starting point for the foot journey into the Tsum Valley.
Our first day of trekking follows the Budhi Gandaki River upstream. The trail meanders through forests, passing charming villages, and crossing suspension bridges that are vital for local connectivity. We'll experience the gentle rhythm of rural Nepal as we make our way to Jagat, a key village that serves as the entry point for the Tsum Valley and where permits are checked.
Leaving Jagat, we descend to the river before ascending through forests, gradually entering the Tsum Valley region. The architecture and cultural elements begin to reflect Tibetan influences as we reach Lokpa, the first village within the valley. The anticipation of the unique cultural experiences ahead grows with each step.
Today, we officially enter the mystical Tsum Valley. The trail leads us through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, adorned with Mani walls and chortens – significant symbols of Buddhist faith. Our destination is Chumling, a picturesque village home to the serene Chumling Gompa, offering our first real taste of the valley's spiritual ambiance and potential views of lower Ganesh Himal peaks.
Our ascent through the Tsum Valley continues, treating us to increasingly breathtaking panoramic views. As we reach Chhokangparo, a village perched on a high plateau, the majestic Ganesh Himal range unfolds before us, including the towering peaks of Ganesh I (Yangra), Ganesh II, and Ganesh III. This is a moment to soak in the grandeur of the Himalayas.
A shorter trek today allows for better acclimatization as we continue our journey to Nile, the last village in the upper Tsum Valley. Along the way, we'll visit the sacred Piren Phu cave, believed to have been a meditation site for Milarepa. Nile offers a profound sense of remoteness and stunning views of the surrounding peaks.
We venture to Mu Gompa, the largest and most significant monastery in the Tsum Valley, rich in history and artifacts. Following this, a hike to Dhephyudonma Gompa at an even higher altitude rewards us with unparalleled panoramic views of the Ganesh Himal and potentially the Sringi Himal, immersing us in the spiritual heart of the valley.
Our descent begins as we trek towards Rachen Gompa, a nunnery offering a different perspective of the valley and its surrounding peaks. Visiting the nunnery provides a unique opportunity to witness the daily lives and spiritual practices of the resident nuns.
Today's trek takes us to the secluded Gumba Lungdang, a monastery known for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning location. Nestled away from the main trail, this monastery offers a serene escape and further immersion into the region's spiritual heritage.
A challenging but incredibly rewarding day as we hike to Ganesh Himal Base Camp. The effort is well worth it, with breathtaking, close-up views of the majestic Ganesh Himal range. After soaking in the awe-inspiring scenery, we return to the peaceful Gumba Lungdang.
We begin our descent from the higher altitudes, trekking down to Ekle Bhatti. The trail offers changing perspectives of the landscape as we make our way back towards the lower regions of the valley.
Continuing our descent, we trek back to Machi Kholla, retracing familiar paths along the river valley. This final day of trekking allows for reflection on the incredible journey through the Tsum Valley.
Today, we take a local bus from Machi Kholla back to Kathmandu. This journey mirrors our initial drive, providing a final opportunity to observe the scenic Nepali countryside. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will celebrate the successful completion of our trek with a farewell dinner, if time permits. If not, the farewell will be arranged as breakfast or lunch on Day 15.

Embark on an extraordinary journey to Tsum Valley and Ganesh Himal Base Camp, a trek that fuses untouched Himalayan wilderness with timeless Tibetan culture. Tucked within the northern reaches of the Manaslu region and bordering Tibet, the Tsum Valley—once a restricted area until 2008—has maintained its deep spiritual traditions and pristine landscapes.
This off-the-beaten-path trek invites trekkers to explore ancient Buddhist monasteries, remote highland villages, dense pine forests, and awe-inspiring mountain vistas. Whether you seek spiritual connection, cultural immersion, or alpine adventure, this trek offers a rare, raw experience few ever encounter.
The valley is home to the Tsumba people, who practice a unique form of Tibetan Buddhism. You'll visit centuries-old monasteries like Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, and Gumba Lungdang, interact with Buddhist nuns and monks, and witness rituals rarely seen elsewhere in Nepal. Local myths suggest the valley was once blessed by Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and was a meditative retreat for sages like Milarepa.
This trek rewards you with close-up views of Ganesh Himal I (Yangra Peak, 7,422m), Himalchuli, Baudha Himal, and Sringi Himal, all dramatically rising above deep gorges and alpine plateaus. The journey to Ganesh Himal Base Camp (4,200m) offers a thrilling high-altitude extension surrounded by glaciers, steep ridges, and vast panoramas.
Visit sacred sites like Piren Phu (Pigeon Cave), an ancient meditation cave believed to have been used by Milarepa. The whole valley exudes a spiritual atmosphere, enhanced by the flapping of prayer flags, the spinning of mani wheels, and the steady rhythm of chanting monks.
Unlike the crowded trails of Annapurna or Everest, this region remains delightfully quiet. You'll cross suspension bridges over the Budhi Gandaki, pass cascading waterfalls, and trek through dense rhododendron forests, all while encountering few other trekkers.
