Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our friendly representative will be there to welcome you and escort you to your hotel in the lively Thamel area. This bustling neighborhood is full of trekking shops, cafes, and cultural sites. After check-in and some rest, you’ll meet the rest of your climbing group in the evening for a detailed trip briefing.
Our climbing leader will go over the route, discuss important altitude acclimatization strategies, and answer all your questions. You’ll also receive your duffle bags for porter use and ensure all your climbing gear is in order. Enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner hosted by Places Nepal Treks.
After breakfast, we leave Kathmandu for a scenic drive to Ramechhap (also known as Manthali), the seasonal airport for Lukla-bound flights during peak trekking months. The drive takes you through rural Nepal with glimpses of terraced fields, local markets, and hillsides.
Upon arrival in Manthali, we check into a nearby hotel and rest for the next morning’s flight. If your flight is directly from Kathmandu (non-peak season), you may enjoy a free day exploring the capital or doing last-minute shopping. Alternatively, for a faster, more scenic transfer, opt for a direct helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.
We take an early morning flight to Lukla, a thrilling experience as we land on one of the world’s highest and shortest airstrips. Here, we meet our porters and begin our trek toward Phakding. The trail gently descends, following the Dudh Koshi River through pine forests and charming Sherpa villages.
We pass mani stones and small stupas, offering our first taste of Khumbu culture. Phakding lies in a scenic riverside setting and allows gentle acclimatization. Explore local monasteries or relax in a cozy teahouse.
After breakfast, we continue along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several iconic suspension bridges draped with prayer flags. We pass through Monjo, where we enter Sagarmatha National Park and register our permits. The trail then drops to Jorsalle before a steep ascent through forested terrain.
The final push to Namche is challenging but rewarding, with your first distant views of Mt. Everest peeking through the clouds. Namche Bazaar is the trading center of the Khumbu and home to bakeries, cafes, and excellent mountain gear shops.
To support acclimatization, we hike to the Everest View Hotel. This short but steep climb rewards you with one of the best panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. We'll enjoy tea or coffee at the hotel while soaking in the views.
After descending, you may explore the Sherpa Culture Museum, visit Namche Monastery, or wander through the vibrant Saturday market if timing aligns. This active rest day greatly increases your chances of successful acclimatization.
Today’s trail follows a ridge offering epic views of Ama Dablam and other Himalayan giants. We descend to Phunki Tenga, where we cross a wooden bridge and begin a steady climb through rhododendron forests.
We arrive at Tengboche, home to the region’s most important monastery. If timing allows, you can witness the monks' evening chanting ceremony. The panoramic mountain backdrop here is one of the most photographed in Nepal.
We descend through forests to Debuche and cross the Imja Khola before gradually ascending through Pangboche, the highest permanent Sherpa village in the Khumbu. This part of the trail is rich in cultural history.
As we ascend, the landscape becomes more alpine and open, and we gain stunning views of Island Peak, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse. Dingboche is a wide, scenic valley offering protection from wind with its stone-walled fields.
To aid in altitude adaptation, we hike up the Chhukung Valley, which offers wide-open views of glaciers and sharp ridgelines. Chhukung is also a launch point for Island Peak and offers up-close views of the south face of Lhotse.
After spending some time at Chhukung, we descend back to Dingboche for the night. Light exercise and hydration continue to play a critical role in your adjustment to high elevation.
We follow a rocky trail along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, passing Dughla. Here we take a break before climbing the Thukla Pass, where memorials honor fallen climbers. The air gets thinner, and pace slows.
Beyond the pass, the trail eases slightly until we reach Lobuche, a small settlement surrounded by dramatic peaks like Nuptse and Lobuche East. You'll start to feel the altitude more, so rest and hydration are key.
A major highlight of the trek, today we reach Gorak Shep and drop our bags before heading to Everest Base Camp. The trail follows the glacier and features rocky moraines and surreal ice formations.
At EBC, you'll stand among the colorful prayer flags, expedition tents, and the mighty Khumbu Icefall. After photos and soaking in the environment, we return to Gorak Shep for a night in one of the highest teahouses on Earth.
We rise early for a pre-dawn climb to Kala Patthar, which offers the best close-up view of Everest, especially at sunrise. From the top, enjoy views of Pumori, Nuptse, Everest, and the Khumbu Glacier.
After descending to Gorak Shep for breakfast, we retrace our steps back to Lobuche, resting up for the next stage of our adventure—peak climbing.
Today’s trek to High Camp involves ascending steep rocky terrain and glacier moraines. We gradually leave the trekking trail behind and enter the climbing route.
At High Camp, our climbing Sherpa team sets up tents and prepares meals. In the afternoon, we go over climbing skills like using fixed ropes, ascenders, ice axes, and crampons. Early dinner and rest are crucial before the summit push.
We start the summit push by 1:00 AM with headlamps. The route includes snowfields, crevasses, and a steep final ascent on fixed lines. The climb can be challenging, but the rewards are immense.
From the summit, take in stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, and even distant Cho Oyu. After celebrating and taking photos, we carefully descend to High Camp, rest briefly, and continue down to Thukla for a well-earned sleep.
This contingency day ensures flexibility for summit attempts or weather delays. If used earlier, it allows for rest or optional exploration near Dingboche or Pangboche.
We descend quickly to Pheriche, then retrace our route through Pangboche and Tengboche. The trail is scenic, passing through forests and small settlements, with ample opportunities to reflect on your summit.
Reaching Namche, you can enjoy fresh food, internet, and warm hospitality after several days above 5,000m.
The final trekking day follows the Dudh Koshi River valley, crossing suspension bridges and villages like Monjo and Phakding. The trail is mostly downhill but requires caution due to loose rocks and steps.
In Lukla, we celebrate with our guides and porters over a farewell dinner. It’s a joyous evening of storytelling and gratitude.
A scenic morning flight takes us back to Kathmandu. After transfer to your hotel, the rest of the day is free for spa visits, souvenir shopping, or sightseeing in Patan or Boudhanath.
Optional celebration dinner and certificate distribution in the evening.
Our team will drop you at the airport for your international flight. You leave Nepal with the achievement of summiting a Himalayan peak and unforgettable memories of Sherpa culture, stunning mountains, and personal triumph.

The Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition is rated as a Tough Adventure, suitable only for trekkers and climbers with a strong fitness base, previous trekking experience at altitude, and a determined mindset.
This itinerary combines high-altitude trekking with alpine mountaineering, pushing your limits across long days, steep ascents, glacier crossings, and thin air. You'll hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364m), summit Kala Patthar (5,545m), and then climb Lobuche East (6,119m)—a non-technical peak that still requires the use of ropes, crampons, and ice axes under the guidance of our certified climbing Sherpas.
You’ll face physical challenges such as:
Participants must be in excellent health, train regularly, and prepare for a multi-week adventure in a remote Himalayan environment. Mental resilience is just as important as physical fitness for a successful summit.
Understanding the weather conditions in the Everest region is crucial for anyone attempting the Lobuche Peak Climb. The ideal windows for this high-altitude adventure are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (late September to November)—when the skies are clearest, mountain views are spectacular, and climbing conditions are relatively stable.
During these peak seasons, lower trekking elevations like Namche Bazaar and Dingboche experience daytime temperatures ranging from 10°C to 18°C (50°F to 64°F). However, as you gain altitude toward Lobuche and Gorak Shep, temperatures can plummet to -10°C (14°F) at night. On summit day from High Camp (above 5,600m), you may face extreme cold between -15°C to -25°C (5°F to -13°F), accompanied by biting wind chills and the possibility of snow, especially in early spring and late autumn.
Climatic Challenges You Might Face:
To tackle these elements, proper preparation is vital. Layered, moisture-wicking clothing, windproof outerwear, insulated sleeping gear, and high-altitude mountaineering equipment are a must. Our experienced guides closely monitor real-time weather forecasts throughout the expedition and adjust plans accordingly to ensure your safety.
To enhance your summit success chances, we include a built-in weather contingency day (Day 14). This buffer allows for flexibility in case of delays or rescheduling due to challenging mountain weather.
Climbing Lobuche Peak is both physically demanding and mentally challenging. To give yourself the best chance of reaching the summit safely and confidently, you should begin preparing at least 12 to 16 weeks before your trip. Here’s how to build the right kind of fitness:
Engage in aerobic exercises such as hiking, running, cycling, or swimming at least 4–5 times a week. Aim for longer durations (45–90 minutes) to build stamina. Add occasional hikes on hilly terrain with a backpack to simulate trekking conditions.
You’ll need strong legs, core, and upper body to carry your pack, navigate rocky trails, and climb safely. Incorporate exercises like:
Train with a loaded backpack (5–10kg) once a week to mimic real trail conditions.
If possible, hike at higher altitudes before your trip or use a hypoxic training mask to simulate altitude conditions. The more your body gets used to working with less oxygen, the smoother your acclimatization process will be in Nepal.
Include stretching or yoga to improve flexibility and prevent injuries. Don’t skip rest days—your body needs time to recover and adapt.
Train your mindset for cold mornings, long summit days, and physical discomfort. Meditation, mindfulness, or even visualizing the summit can boost your mental resilience.
Stay well-hydrated, eat balanced meals, and avoid alcohol or smoking before the trip. Check with your doctor about vaccinations and ensure you're physically cleared for high-altitude activity.
By combining physical training with a positive attitude and proper gear, you’ll be ready to face the rewarding challenge of summiting Lobuche Peak.
Packing the right gear is vital for your safety, comfort, and success during the Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition. Below is a comprehensive list of recommended items, categorized for easy planning:
Note: We provide group climbing gear, tents, mats, and kitchen setup at High Camp. You can rent personal climbing equipment in Kathmandu at affordable rates—please let us know in advance if you need assistance.

First climbed in 1984, Lobuche East has become a favorite for climbers due to its stunning ridgelines, accessibility, and spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Pumori. The route passes through significant cultural hubs like Tengboche Monastery and Sherpa settlements that preserve Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
