Your journey begins with a morning flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. As you fly west, you will look down over Nepal’s changing landscapes, watching the dramatic hills flatten into the wide Terai plains.
At the airport, a representative from Places Nepal Treks will meet you for the drive to our jungle lodge. The road takes you through rural towns and deep into the quiet countryside bordering the national park.
After checking in and enjoying a fresh lunch at the resort, we begin exploring:
We start early at 6:00 a.m. with hot tea and breakfast. Today is all about the thrill of exploring the jungle on foot. Walking safaris are Bardia’s specialty—moving silently without the noise of an engine allows us to hear the sounds of the forest and approach wildlife without disturbing them.
You will be accompanied by two experienced nature guides who know these forests intimately. They will teach you how to read the jungle, pointing out fresh tiger pugmarks in the mud, listening for deer alarm calls, and identifying the tracks of rhinos and wild elephants.
After an exciting day tracking wildlife on the ground, we head back to the lodge to relax and share stories over dinner.
After breakfast, we head back into the park, this time boarding an open-top 4x4 jeep. While yesterday's walk was focused on stealth and tracking, today’s jeep safari allows us to cover large distances and access remote core zones of the park that are too far to reach on foot.
The jeep takes us through changing ecosystems, from dense Sal forests to wide open grasslands where wild elephant herds and rare swamp deer are known to graze.
Enjoy a quiet breakfast at the lodge as the morning mist clears over the fields. After packing up, our driver will take you back to Nepalgunj Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu.
The Places Nepal Treks team will meet you at the domestic terminal in Kathmandu to transfer you back to your hotel, bringing your wild western safari to a close.
Reaching the untamed wilderness of Bardia National Park is completely effortless with Places Nepal Treks, as our team manages every detail of your journey starting right from your hotel doorstep in Kathmandu. On Day 1, our private vehicle will pick you up directly from your Kathmandu hotel and transfer you seamlessly to the airport. From there, you will take a quick, scenic 50-minute domestic flight to Nepalgunj Airport, trading the bustling capital for the sweeping vistas of the western Terai plains. The moment you land, our local representative will be waiting to welcome you and drive you in a private, air-conditioned vehicle through beautiful rural villages directly to your safari resort in Thakurdwara, the main gateway to the park.
By handling all logistics from start to finish, we eliminate the stress of coordinating local transit, allowing you to focus entirely on your upcoming Bardia wildlife tour. At the end of your 4-day adventure, we provide the same seamless service in reverse: a private transfer back to Nepalgunj Airport, a return flight to Kathmandu, and a dedicated team member waiting at the domestic terminal to drive you safely back to your hotel. While budget travelers often endure exhaustive 12 to 15-hour overnight bus rides to the park, our premium flight-inclusive Bardia jungle safari package ensures you save your energy for what matters most—tracking the legendary Royal Bengal Tiger in Asia's finest untouched wilderness.
When you book this Bardia jungle safari package, all your meals and lodging are fully arranged from the moment you arrive in the Terai plains. We rate our Bardia National Park wildlife vacation as Easy to Moderate, making it an excellent choice for solo travelers, couples, and families alike. Unlike grueling mountain climbs, this safari does not require technical mountaineering skills or intense physical endurance. The primary challenge comes from the full-day walking safaris, where you will spend 5 to 7 hours pacing through flat but uneven jungle terrain, sandy riverbeds, and tall elephant grass under the tropical sun.
The difficulty can shift based on the season, as the warmer months of spring demand good stamina to handle the dry heat while walking between observation towers. However, our itineraries balance active foot tracking with comfortable 4x4 jeep safaris, allowing you to rest your legs while covering larger areas of the park. If a full day of walking sounds too demanding, our flexible guiding team can easily adjust the daily pace, substituting walks with longer jeep drives or restful observation sessions by the riverbanks.
Bardia National Park experiences a distinct sub-tropical monsoon climate, offering vastly different safari experiences throughout the year. Spring (March to May) is widely considered the peak season for a Bardia tiger tracking tour; as the summer heat rises, water holes dry up, driving tigers, rhinos, and wild elephants out of the thick brush toward the major riverbanks for a drink. Temperatures during this dry season can climb past 40°C, but the reward is world-class wildlife viewing.
Autumn (October to January) brings pleasant, clear skies and cooler temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C, making it the perfect time for comfortable outdoor exploration and exceptional migratory bird watching. The winter months (December and January) bring chilly mornings and misty atmospheres, requiring warm layers before the afternoon sun breaks through. We generally recommend avoiding the monsoon season (June to September), as heavy rains cause the rivers to swell, thick vegetation reduces visibility, and many park tracks become temporarily impassable.

Tips and gratitude
While a Bardia jungle tour is physically accessible, improving your stamina will make long days tracking animals on your feet much more enjoyable. We recommend starting light cardio training 3 to 4 weeks before your departure date. Regular activities like brisk walking, jogging, cycling, or spending time on a treadmill will build up your aerobic endurance, helping you stay comfortable during long hours out in the field.
Because a walking safari involves moving across uneven terrain, loose sand, and forest floors, preparing your feet is essential. Spend time walking in the actual boots or trail shoes you plan to pack for your trip to break them in and prevent blisters. Incorporating a few long weekend walks (lasting 2 to 3 hours) will easily condition your legs, ensuring you can focus entirely on tracking wildlife rather than dealing with tired muscles.
